The Bellmore Fire Department Fire Police Squad consists of certified New York State peace officers who have a wide range of duties at the scene of emergencies, including traffic and crowd control, security of fire department apparatus, evacuations and safeguarding of scenes at the request of county police or other law enforcement agencies. All members are veteran BFD firefighters with extensive training in the traffic laws and regulations as well as traffic control in New York State.

The Fire Police Squad operates a specially equipped van designated 6015 to respond to emergencies. Fire Police Officers also respond directly to the scene in their private vehicles to help clear roads for responding emergency vehicles.
